The group was organized and became incorporated in May, 1999. The first rehearsal was held in September, 1999 in Lancaster, Texas.

The Southwest Children’s Chorus was founded by Michael King in 1999, as a result of the apparent need of civic music organizations in the Southwest Dallas County/ Ellis County areas. Interested members of the community secured the facilities of the First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, Texas, and formed a Board of Directors made up of interested citizens of Dallas, DeSoto, Duncanville, Irving, Lancaster, Red Oak, and Waxahachie.

Moving forward, the Board initiated an aggressive recruiting program which resulted in nearly 300 children signing up for auditions that very first year!

The Tour Choir has performed across the world in over 35 states in addition to Austria, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Switzerland.

The choir has crossed the nation, singing concerts from Kennebunkport, Maine to San Diego, California; from Orlando, Florida to West Yellowstone, Montana. In addition, the choir has performed in every major venue in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and across the state of Texas.

Locally, the choir has performed for the “Tree of Angels” Holiday Concerts, Bethlehem Revisited in Waxahachie, “Candlelight” at Dallas Heritage Village, “Holiday in the Park” at Six Flags over Texas, NorthPark Center, the Majestic Theatre, Bass Hall and the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.

The Chorus is regularly called upon to perform for corporate and charity events. Some recent performances include a benefit gala for Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) at the Hilton Anatole, Corporate Gatherings of the Zotos Corporation in Dallas and San Diego, CA, benefits for the J.C. Penney Corporation’s Afterschool Program, as well as the Children’s Medical Center’s “Distinguished Service to Children Award Gala” at the Hyatt Regency Dallas.
